After being in the military for a while, Henri Dimpre turned to illustration in the early 1930's. He made illustrations for Le Rire, Marius and Cadet Rousselle. He also took on comics, which he made for Jeudi (1934) and Jean-Pierre (1938). After the War, in 1955, Dimpre created the character 'Slim Galaway' with writer Lucien Bornert in Jocko et Poustiquet. He illustrated most of the early 'Pilotoramas', written by Charlier, in Pilote magazine from 1959.
