Charming travel book with pictorial maps drawn by A.E. Taylor and text written by S.P.B. Mais. The book was published for ESSO (Anglo-American Oil Company, Ltd.) with the aim to promote auto-tourism in the British isles and Ireland, which was becoming increasingly affordable in the 1930's. The book is divided into following 8 sections, each preceeded with double page pictorial map of the region:
- The West Country
- The Eastern Counties and The Midlands
- The North Country and Lake District
- The South Coast
- Scotland
- Wales with Neighbouring Counties
- The Irish Free State and Northern Ireland
- The Islands of Britain
Each section contains alphabetical list of places with a short description of most popular tourist attractions and most important cities are portrayed in a black and white map. The pictorial maps itself are very detailed and besides the road network and popular tourist attractions contain number of quotes from famous (literary) characters, referencing and praising various locations.
