This conveniently sized 5.5-inch (14 cm) diameter globe, crafted by Abel Klinger for the German market, provides a fascinating glimpse into the world as it was understood at the close of the 19th century. Based on its details, we can deduce that it was manufactured post-1885 since it includes the Congo state and German colonies in the Pacific and South-West Africa. Notably, the absence of French West Africa or Rhodesia suggests that this globe likely predates 1895. The area of notable countries has been hand coloured.
What sets this small globe apart is its utilization of various fonts, which aids in distinguishing between different types of geographical features. What's particularly unusual for a globe of this size is the inclusion of names for ethnic groups from around the world. Some of these names are rather uncommon, such as "Mifsionnen" in South America or "Beeljuanen" in Africa.
The varnish comes off on several places (very tiny areas though). Overall relatively dark but the map remains intact and is still well legible. The hole at the top part a bit widened. The wooden base has some worm holes.
