This is a stunning example of an antique celestial globe, likely created as an educational tool or decorative piece during a period when the representation of the heavens was both a scientific and artistic endeavor. The globe displays constellations in a classic artistic style, with mythological figures and symbols overlaying the star patterns.
The detailing is exquisite, featuring golden stars against a dark, richly colored background that creates a striking contrast. The constellations, such as Cassiopeia, Lyra, Hercules and others, are labeled in a delicate script, showcasing both the artistic and cartographic skills of its maker. The mount and base are made from wood and metal, adding to its vintage aesthetic.
Although not specifically labeled, it is likely the globe was produced by a German Paul Räth globe making company based in Leipzig, under the supervision of A. Krause.
The year of manufacture is estimated based on the style of the stand.
One scratch (about 7 cm long (see photos), otherwise good condition with very few other signs of use.
